Assign­ment Edi­tor – Free­lance need­ed in San Jose California

NBC Bay Area is seek­ing an expe­ri­enced free­lance Assign­ment Edi­tor to join our team.  The suc­cess­ful can­di­date will con­ceive research and coor­di­nate news cov­er­age for reporters and field crews as well as work with man­age­ment, pro­duc­ers, writ­ers, and pro­duc­tion staff on the devel­op­ment of news sto­ries.  The free­lance Assign­ment Edi­tor will estab­lish a strong net­work of con­tacts and sources across the Bay Area; con­duct reg­u­lar beat checks with local offi­cials and pub­lic safe­ty orga­ni­za­tions; book guests for live and record­ed inter­views; per­form back­ground, skip-trac­ing and data­base search­es as well as write con­tent for NBC Bay Area’s dig­i­tal platforms.

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qual­i­fi­ca­tions:

• Min­i­mum of 2 years’ expe­ri­ence work­ing as an Assign­ment Editor
• Will­ing­ness to work long hours, overnights, over­time and week­ends if necessary
• Excel­lent com­put­er skills and expe­ri­ence in com­put­er-assist­ed reporting
• Strong writ­ing and research skills
• Expe­ri­ence work­ing as a field producer

Eli­gi­bil­i­ty Requirements

• Must be will­ing to work in San Jose, CA
• Must have unre­strict­ed work autho­riza­tion to work in the Unit­ed States
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a valid Driver’s License

Desired Char­ac­ter­is­tics

• Abil­i­ty to per­form sim­ple shoot­ing and edit­ing of video
