It’s a familÂiar stoÂry: you take a call from a guy in comÂpaÂny X who wants to talk busiÂness, but the brief conÂverÂsaÂtion you have yields litÂtle more than the basic inforÂmaÂtion. Well, if foreÂwarned truÂly is foreÂarmed, then savvy prodÂuct manÂagers will doubtÂless be interÂestÂed to learn that TemÂpo – a smart calÂenÂdar app that first appeared back in FebÂruÂary – has announced some updates that could make the task of getÂting the gen on your felÂlow inviÂtees just that bit easier.
UpdatÂing the tech
The update builds on existÂing feaÂtures that saw the app surÂface usuÂal staÂples such as email and social platÂforms (LinkedIn), as well as proÂvide direcÂtions to the meetÂing. Now users are offered the chance to go a litÂtle deepÂer in the form of a digÂiÂtal card that gives them inforÂmaÂtion about the place that the perÂson they’re meetÂing with works at, as well as any news artiÂcles perÂtainÂing to the orgaÂniÂzaÂtion and options to check out any online proÂfiles – should they exist – in places as august as Google News and Yahoo.
As far as CEO and founder Raj Singh sees it, this is the next step of a develÂopÂment process that has so far been engaged in rolling out the right infraÂstrucÂture to supÂport its users. He describes the new feaÂtures as a process of ‘getÂting back to our roadmap’ and sees the main advanÂtage of TemÂpo being in the detailed underÂstandÂing it has of its users and their calÂenÂdars. It’s cerÂtainÂly a prodÂuct that’s gathÂerÂing momenÂtum as it goes – it was only June, after all, that TemÂpo manÂaged to secure $10 milÂlion in funding.
NetÂworkÂing the future
BusiÂness develÂopÂment assoÂciates will be curiÂous about the posÂsiÂbilÂiÂties of the tech beyond tarÂgetÂed data, and preÂdictably, there’s anothÂer part of the equaÂtion to conÂsidÂer. Singh was keen to emphaÂsize that TemÂpo is lookÂing to build netÂworks of inforÂmaÂtion by conÂstructÂing a graph that conÂnects indiÂvidÂuÂals as well as comÂpaÂnies. While indiÂvidÂual users will only be able to access the parts of the graph that are relatÂed to their conÂtacts, TemÂpo will be able to build conÂnecÂtions between valuÂable data such as comÂpaÂny contacts.
So what of the future? Well Singh has nevÂer seen the app as excluÂsiveÂly to be used in the world of busiÂness and sales claims that comÂing months may well see the comÂpaÂny realÂize plans to surÂface ‘a lot’ of othÂer types of data.
It seems that bookÂing meetÂings just got a whole lot more interesting.
