As a Capi­tol reporter your job will take you from Las Vegas to Wash­ing­ton DC, Alas­ka, Geor­gia, Neva­da and Wyoming.

You will be work­ing with a devel­op­ing News Bureau cov­er­ing mul­ti­ple State and Fed­er­al Pol­i­tics. 

Who is Coastal Tele­vi­sion Broad­cast­ing?

Found­ed in 2008 and head­quar­tered in Anchor­age, Alas­ka, Coastal Tele­vi­sion Broad­cast­ing Hold­ings LLC is engaged in the oper­a­tion and acqui­si­tion of tele­vi­sion broad­cast­ing sta­tions locat­ed in mid-to-small sized mar­kets. Coastal TV owns and oper­ates KTBY, KFNB, KLWY and WLOV, the FOX Broad­cast affil­i­ates in Anchor­age, AK, Casper, WY, Cheyenne, WY and Tupe­lo, MS, respec­tive­ly.

Coastal TV also pro­vides adver­tis­ing sales and oth­er ser­vices under arrange­ments with KYUR (the ABC affil­i­ate) and KYUR-DT.2 (the CW Plus affil­i­ate) in Anchor­age, AK.

Under an agree­ment between Coastal TV and the own­er of KATN, KATN-DT.2 and KATN-DT.3 in Fair­banks, Alas­ka, and KJUD, KJUD-DT.2 and KJUD-DT.3 in Juneau, Alas­ka, Coastal TV pro­vides cer­tain of the sta­tions’ non-net­work pro­gram­ming. KATN and KJUD are the ABC affil­i­ates in Fair­banks and Juneau, respec­tive­ly. KATN-DT.2 and KJUD-DT.2 are the FOX Broad­cast affil­i­ates in Fair­banks and Juneau, respec­tive­ly. KATN-DT.3 and KJUD-DT.3 are the CW Plus affil­i­ate in Fair­banks and Juneau, respec­tive­ly.

Coastal TV also pro­vides ser­vices under arrange­ments with the own­ers of KTWO and KKTQ, ABC affil­i­ates in Casper and Cheyenne, WY, respec­tive­ly, and the Own­ers of KGWC, the CBS affil­i­ate in Casper, WY.

What is the job?

This Capi­tol Reporter job will be locat­ed in Fab­u­lous Las Vegas Neva­da with trav­el assign­ments specif­i­cal­ly with­in a mul­ti-state area sup­port­ing our news net­work. Areas of assign­ment include Alas­ka, Geor­gia, Neva­da, Wyoming and Wash­ing­ton DC.

Assign­ments are Polit­i­cal Report­ing, Inti­mate Inter­views along with devel­op­ing last­ing rela­tion­ships with polit­i­cal lead­ers and per­sons of inter­est built on trust and cred­i­bil­i­ty.

Pro­duc­ing and fill­ing in to Anchor, along with par­tic­i­pat­ing in and pro­duc­ing week­ly polit­i­cal pro­grams cre­at­ed and host­ed by you, and your col­leagues, are a ben­e­fit to this posi­tion.

We’re look­ing for a ded­i­cat­ed reporter who works well inde­pen­dent­ly, has good crit­i­cal think­ing skills, and who isn’t con­tent to sit and wait for a pub­lic infor­ma­tion offi­cer to call you back.

Must be tech­ni­cal in nature and able to con­nect with poten­tial inter­vie­wees by many dif­fer­ent meth­ods oth­er than a per­son­al vis­it.

As a Polit­i­cal Bureau Reporter, you are respon­si­ble for mak­ing con­tacts with com­mu­ni­ty lead­ers and devel­op­ing your own sto­ry ideas. You must be a self-starter who can meet dead­lines with­out super­vi­sion!

A degree in jour­nal­ism is required, Polit­i­cal Sci­ence or stud­ies is a wel­comed addi­tion.

Pref­er­ence is not entry lev­el, how­ev­er we will con­sid­er any­one demon­strat­ing the qual­i­fi­ca­tions and edu­ca­tion as described.

Must be well versed in shoot­ing, edit­ing, news­room expe­ri­ence, and the abil­i­ty to work well with oth­ers. Be a team play­er and leave the news­room dra­ma behind.
