Can Letgo slay Classified Ads Overlord Craigslist?

Can Letgo slay Classified Ads Overlord Craigslist?

Is the New York and Barcelona-based Letgo app the only contender out there with the power to defeat classified ads superstar Craigslist? Well, at present they’ve quietly grown to 2 million downloads since the beginning of the year and have just announced raising $100 million in Series A funding from Naspers Limited, a media company from South Africa. They’ve also funded a classifieds platform called OLX which just so happens to be a company that was previously cofounded by Letgo founder Alec Oxenford. He’s still on the chair at OLX, a company that serves 240 million users in emerging markets in India, Brazil and Poland. This solid experience is what clearly motivated Naspers to throw down the cash on Letgo. Martin Scheepbouwer, CEO of Naspers Classifieds, in a statement about the investment in letgo. “We have seen firsthand Alec’s ability to execute on his vision as we worked together to build OLX into the global force it is today. In letgo, Alec has built a platform that is perfectly tailored to the American consumer, and we’re excited to help his team take it to the next level.” The app, which lets users buy and sell items locally is available on both Android and…

Is the future of media a hologram, the people and Samsung think so?

Is the future of media a hologram, the people and Samsung think so?

So if you haven’t become aware, holograms have been appearing more and more of late as the technology gets refined. Holography or the use of holograms have caught the attention of techies and DIY’ers. Why? The first being it uses a smart phone and it’s really easy to create. I found instructions of how in a wire magazine article recently published; You’ll need a CD case, an x-acto knife, graph paper, tape, and a pen—then just follow these steps: 1) First, use the graph paper and pen to measure out a trapezoid that is one centimeter at the top, six centimeters on the bottom, and 3.5 centimeters at the sides. 2) Then using that trapezoid and the x-acto knife, cut out four identical trepezoids from the clear part of the CD case. 3) Create a pyramid by taping the 3.5cm sides together. And then you’re done. Follow along with a tutorial video tutorial. Easy right! And now Samsung just patented for a smartphone screen that’s capable of displaying objects in mid-air, in 3D. Is that right? Yes it is. Samsungs (jobs at Samsung) next phone the Galaxy S7 may be holographic, the patent was filed back in the second half of…

zSpace: to boldly go where no 3D VR/AR education tool has gone before.

HP has made a practical VR/AR tool for educators, scientists, and other professionals that need high fidelity simulated interactions with computer-generated models. They call it the Zyr display, which incorporates four cameras for head-tracking, a fully gyroscopic stylus that allows for both precise pointing and true 3D manipulation of objects, and a 3D display that uses special glasses. To top that off they have also created a software called Zview for sharing Zyr 3D content. Now a startup by the name of zSpace, which is a leading-edge technology provider that is delivering a new way of learning focused on STEM education, medical instruction, corporate training and research, zSpace inspires and accelerates understanding through immersive exploration. zSpace (jobs at zSpace) is a privately held, venture backed company located in Sunnyvale, CA, and has filed more than 30 patents for its innovative technologies. When you put on the glasses, images appear in 3-D. Cameras on the screen track the user’s head movement, letting them move closer to get a better view of objects. The stylus lets users pick up things and see them from every angle. The result is an experience that feels natural, and precise enough that it could be a learning tool…

Get the Marketing job you want with these key facts.

Get the Marketing job you want with these key facts.

How many of you have graduated with a B.S. in marketing so you could go out and plan promotional campaigns, study consumer behavior and buy media time – things you learned in college? Then to finally get that job interview and be asked “how good are you at selling”, and think back that sales training was never part of the curriculum. Well don’t feel bad because a good number of colleges focus only on traditional marketing theories which don’t tend to see much light of day until you’ve been in the game long enough and sure as hell not in your first entry level job. According to statisticians, college placement officers and company recruiters over 25,000 students earned an undergraduate degree in marketing last year. Roughly 5 people of that massive total actually got a job doing marketing. The reason being companies don’t tend to hire marketers without sales experience. Doing sales is how you acquire the street cred for a job in marketing. Companies have historically staffed their marketing departments with experienced salespeople. Advice from a GE recruiter. “Any internships or actual sales experience you can gain during school will give you an edge.” The problem is sales and…
