Why You Want a Job at Twitter

Jobs at Twitter why work here

Twitter was voted the 26th best place to work in 2016 on Glassdoor, believe it or not right after Apple (#25). Founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, the current CEO,  Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams Twitter was designed for all the Attention Deficit types who want their information short and to the point. Twitter has 328 million monthly active users worldwide as of 2017, the equivalent of the entire population of the US uses Twitter every month.  This is over twice the users of Snapchat’s 150 million and a fraction of Facebook’s over 2 billion monthly active users. Now you may have heard that Twitter has lost its way and growth has slowed or even declined.  However this 500 to 1000 employee company should not be overlooked in your search for a great company to take a job with.  While advertising revenue has declined 8% in 2Q 2017 to $489 million it’s still a $2 billion dollar company. In an interview Jack Dorsey spoke of where Twitter is headed.  Dorsey says Twitter’s role in the world is still focused on bringing people together.  This includes Twitter’s emphasis of late on live events.  Dorsey emphasizes that Twitter is the…

Nielsen Transforming an Old School Ratings Company into a Digital Superstar - Why You Want to Work at Nielsen

Nielsen is one of the reasons billions of dollars are spent on advertising every year.  Nielsen is the way advertiser’s determine on which media to spend their money.  The media market has changed since Nielsen was founded in 1923 by Arthur C. Nielsen, Sr., who invented an approach to measuring competitive sales results that made the concept of “market share” a practical management tool. Today’s world of advertising is at historic spend levels, but they’re also facing one of the most difficult sea changes ever. In order to more accurately make decisions they need to know what they’ve historically been able to know – who’s watching what, when, and the relation to purchases of the products advertised during said watching. But with the way people view content, and consequently advertising, changing so drastically with multiple screens and time-shifting options, that information is getting harder to pin down. Nielsen deals with Fragmentation and Reliability The answer for many companies such as NBCUniversal is to develop proprietary in-house solutions, but that’s a very incomplete answer. If every company is using proprietary measuring methods, it’s impossible to compare apples to apples. That makes ad buyers nervous, and rightly so. Spending billions of dollars on decisions made…

Why You Want to Get a Job at Vogue Magazine:

vogue magazine

Getting a Job at Vogue Magazine, owned by the Conde Nast Publishing Company,  is like getting a daily “brush with Fame”.  Anna Wintour, Vogue’s Editor and Chief, is known as the most influential woman in fashion. Working at the magazine is so prestigious Merrill Streep played Anna Wintour in a movie about working at the magazine, The Devil Does Prada, also starring Anne Hathaway as the “fashionless” personal assistant. But in real life a job at Vogue can change your life.  Ask Paris Mitchell about that.  She landed the job a million women would kill for when she was hired as the assistant to US Vogue design director, Raul Martinez. Now out on her own, today she is constantly in-demand as a stylist and also co-founded online store The Mercantile and clothing line Paris Georgia Basics with pal Georgia Cherrie. The culture of the fashion magazine can be summed up in the qualities that Anna Wintour looks for in an employee: Culture, Confidence, Point of View, Personal Style, High Energy, Ambition, Openness to Color (meaning wearing color) and finally Presentability. Vogue Magazine has a circulation of 220,000 was founded 125 years ago and has been tracking and leading fashion since…

Is it Better to work at Buzzfeed or The New York Times?

Is it Better to work at Buzzfeed or The New York Times?

With over 5 billion views and 80 million website visitors each month Buzzfeed has become the news organization to beat.  However over 75% of those views are due to content being published on other than Buzzfeed properties. Buzzfeed, known for its non-traditional approach to news with articles like “These Are The 11 Most WTF Things Trump Actually Said In A Wall Street Journal Interview” was founded in November 2006 by Jonah Peretti, John S. Johnson III. and Kenneth Lerer, co-founder and chairman of The Huffington Post. With over 18 offices and 1,300 employees Buzzfeed has become a news organization that is changing the way we see news. The biggest problem The New York Times faces is the legacy of being a print newspaper.  The question is does that experience and expertise put them ahead of all the new “news” businesses or behind.  The New York Times website sees 78 unique visitors per month and their video views are not known, although they are utilizing more and more video on their website. As for syndication Buzzfeed has the New York Times beat with 75% of their content being viewed elsewhere.  Again is it better to build the views on your own…
